DIY Search engine optimisation

February 22nd, 2007

Step One
You should think of relevant key phrases or keywords for every page you plan on having, optimizing the page copy to include these key phrases / keywords making your web page’s friendly to search engines. (These key phrases or keywords are what you would expect your target audience to use when searching for your services).

Step Two
Other consideration should then be given to what’s called META TAGS. There are two main META TAGS, the TITLE and DESCRIPTION. These too should contain key phrases or keywords relevant to your services. There is also a META TAG for KEYWORD and although some search engines no longer take this into account it is still worth listing out keywords seperated by comma’s which will be included within this META TAG. Keywords should broadly match your content.

Step Three
The last piece of advice which will take up a lot of your time is to get plenty of inbound links from quality websites with relevant key phrases / keywords in the link text and description.  The more quality inbound links to your website the more times the search engine spiders will visit your website  thus increasing your page rank.
