Early Beginnings: The Print Industry
My passion for web design dates back over 25 years, to the era when Netscape Navigator ruled the internet and dial-up modems were the gateway to the World Wide Web. Do you remember those early days?
Transitioning to IT and Graphic Design
My career began in the print industry, during a time when computers were not yet commonplace in the workplace. As technology advanced and computers gradually made their way into the office, my career path became increasingly clear. I became deeply interested in IT and Graphic Design, initially working with QuarkXPress, and eventually, I found my true calling in Web Design.
Founding Redboat Design in Tunbridge Wells
In 2006, after relocating from London to Tunbridge Wells, I founded Redboat Design. The early days were challenging, but through extensive networking and building connections, I discovered that Tunbridge Wells is a wonderful place to live and work. The town’s vibrant community and rich history provided a perfect backdrop for my growing business.
Embracing Challenges and Diverse Clientele
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of clients, from small local businesses to larger corporations. Each project has been an opportunity to learn and innovate, pushing the boundaries of web design and user experience. My approach has always been client-centric, focusing on creating visually appealing, functional, and responsive websites that meet the unique needs of each business.
A Supportive and Collaborative Community
Despite the strong competition in web design, the community here is incredibly supportive. Many of the longest-established web design firms know each other well and often collaborate, creating a vibrant and cooperative environment. This camaraderie has fostered a culture of mutual growth and learning, allowing all of us to stay at the forefront of industry trends and technological advancements.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Web Design
Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far the industry has come since the days of dial-up internet and static web pages. Today, we are in an era of dynamic content, mobile-first design, and cutting-edge technologies like AI and AR. I am excited to continue this journey, constantly adapting and evolving to deliver the best possible solutions for my clients.
